Dear Ms. Winchester,
I am a fourth year biology student at a Gdansk University in Poland and I would like to apply for an internship at the WK Kellog Bird Sancutary.
I have learned about your organization from Professor Kevin W. Smith from Humboldt State University at Arcata, CA who was a guest speaker at a conference at my university last year. I discussed my wildlife interests with him and he told me that an internship at Kellog's would broaden my knowledge and experience of various species of water fowl in which I am particularly interested in.
Next year I will be entering a graduate program at my university. My professional objective is to become a curator/manager of a nature reserve.
Besides my studies I am a volunteer at several organizations devoted to animal study and protection. First one is Akcja Bałtycka (part of European Bird Migration Network - SEEN) which is a migratory bird station dedicated to catching and ringing migratory birds. While there I received training and I am a certified bird ringer. I've been able to use my skills at other migratory bird stations abroad: in Egypt (Burullus) and Ukraine (Bilozerka).
In the summer of 2014 I was an intern at Boheman Bird Sanctuary in Hungary working as a guide.
While in high school I was a volunteer at a rabbit shelter providing general and medical care to rabbits who were abandoned or taken away from illegal farms.
Kellog's Bird Sanctuary is of special interest to me because I take great interest in water fowl and I know that you have many unique species of geese, ducks and swans. I would be willing to work in any capacity you see fit: taking care of the animals, interacting with guests providing information about the habitat or working in the sanctuary's shop.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Maciej Hobela
